Hailing from the Mississippi Delta, Damon grew up in the kitchen learning from his family.

Damon graduated with honors from one of the nation’s premier culinary schools, Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina. He then moved to the Rocky Mountains and worked as a chef in Sun Valley Idaho and Glacier Montana.


After exploring the Rocky Mountains, Damon found himself in Steamboat Springs in 1999. He became the head Chef and Manager of Hazie’s and Ragnar’s for the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation. He left the Ski Resort after three years to open up the restaurants at Catamount Ranch and Club and then became the executive chef at La Montana, one of Steamboat’s most iconic restaurants. He then took on the role of Director of F&B and designed the exhibition kitchen for Elk Creek Ranch, a private shared community in Meeker, Colorado. Damon has consulted on the redesign of the Yacht Club on the Yampa River and the concept and menu of 5280 Burger Bar, a high profile gourmet burger restaurant in Denver, Colorado.


Currently, Damon is the owner of The Mountain Chef, a Steamboat-based personal chef and catering company specializing in the luxury rental market. He also works as the consulting chef on kitchen design for One Steamboat Place.  He brings almost 20 years of restaurant experience to your event. His extensive knowledge provides this new venture with an expert in staffing, purchasing, menu creation and design, inventory control, marketing and all other facets of restaurant business.
